“Janneke Klop acted as Liaison Officer at Explorer Belt Switzerland 2023. Explorer Belt is a backcountry hiking project for adult Swiss Scouts which takes place in a different country every year. In August 2023, a total of 30 so-called «explorers» have been hiking for 11 days in small groups in Romania. More precisely: the Făgăraș and the Retezat mountains.
During 5 Zoom meetings over 5 months, Janneke provided us with advice and support. She competently answered our safety-related questions, arranged fantastic accommodation for us and checked each of the 13 team routes twice. When we finally arrived in Romania, Janneke welcomed us with an informative but not alarmist input on how to deal with animals and people in Romania. During the 11-day trek, she was available 24/7 on her satellite communication device and kept us informed of potential weather changes.
When we arrived in Brasov, we spent another wonderful evening with Janneke in a local restaurant celebrating the successful, accident-free Explorer Belt 2023. With her profound knowledge of the Romanian mountains, but also of the Romanian culture, Janneke was of immense importance for our project. She is a versatile, helpful person who enriched Explorer Belt 2023 in so many ways and was always a pleasure to work with.
